The First Baptist Church of College Park, one of the oldest African-American congregations in Prince George’s County, Maryland at 120 years, is a Christ-centered, Spirit-filled, Bible-believing, Christian fellowship of approximately 150 members nestled in the historic, quaint community of Lakeland in College Park, Maryland. The Holy Spirit fills us as the Master’s life flows in and through us. We promote living our faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord as a blessing we experience every day. We are a church stretched out on the truth of the Word of God. All that we do is for God’s glory, realizing that we can do nothing in and of ourselves.
The First Baptist Church of College Park is a praying church, where each individual’s situation and condition is just as important as the next one’s. In-reach (responding to the needs of those within our congregation) and outreach share equal importance among us. We take the time to learn each other’s name. We weep and rejoice together. Members care about members. We witness the power of God as He answers our prayers of faith, and we see living testimonies among us of healing and deliverance. We are committed to the ministry of fellowship. The Christian Education Ministry meets our need to grow in grace as well as equip the members for everyday ministry.
Most important, the First Baptist Church of College Park preaches and teaches embracing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, crucified, arisen from the dead, as our sole remedy for sin, our sole hope of salvation, and our sole focus for God’s promise of eternal life. There is nothing fancy or complicated about us. All who come to us find a welcoming atmosphere. Often referred to as the “Little Big Church,” we extend to each and all a warm welcome with a genuinely Christian, loving spirit.
